
Habit: Pyramidal but later broadly conical tree

Leaf Description: Unequally toothed mid green leaves, 7-12cm long. Turning yellow to orange in Autumn.
Flowering: In spring bears yellow male catkins to 3cm long , greenish female catkins 3-6cm long.Green fruit with prominent 3 lobed bracts maturing to yellow brown.
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Site Suitability: Grow in moderately fertile well drained soil in the sun or partial shade
Pest & Diseases: Prone to coral spot, caterpillars and aphids
Comments: Native to much of Europe, rare in Ireland and Scotland. As a young or trimmed tree it retains its dead leaves in winter.
